If you’re thinking you would like to start training for your first 5k race then lets get started today. Don’t put it off any longer. Everything you need to get started is right here. So what are you waiting for?
Are you fit and healthy? Before starting out on any new fitness program it always pays to get the OK from your doctor.
OK,so your back already, that was quick, and your right to go?
Lets lay down a few of the basic requirements. You should allow for at least 8 weeks of regular training where you will be running 3 times a week for approximately 30 minutes each session, but don’t worry too much about the training side of things just yet, it really is quite easy and we will take you through every step of the way.
Next, you are going to need a good 5k Training Schedule. Now isn’t today your lucky day, because we can help with that as well. We have plenty of 5k training schedules right here on this website. The best way to access these training schedules is to either download and print it out, and then stick it onto your fridge door, this way you will see many times a day. You can also subscribe to the free 8 week training course via email. This is a great way to have the weekly training schedules emailed directly to you each week. You can find the link here.
In particular, I would like to recomend the Couch to 5K training schedule as it is a well structured training schedule that takes you from start to finish and progressively challenges you as you become fitter. The great thing about the couch to 5k is that it starts you on the right level, you get the option to start at the level that suits you most, it also includes regular rest days to allow for rest and recovery.
The other thing that I would like to suggest as a very important part to your training and ultimate success is to find a local 5k run in your area. Try to plan your 8 week training around the starting date of the 5k run. If your having trouble finding one then maybe check with your local running store or go online and see if you can find one.
Finally, the next tip I would like to suggest is to see if you can find a running buddy. Your running buddy can be anyone from your next door neighbour to your very best friend, why you could even grab your husband, wife, kids or dog when you go running. Having a running buddy is a fantastic way of spending time with someone you care about plus you are developing a healthy lifestyle at the same time, it really is a win-win.
So now you have all you need to get you started training for your first 5K run, there’s nothing stopping you now. The joy and sense of accomplishment that you will experience when you cross the finish line will be so rewarding, you might even get the running bug…
